The Duggan/French Approach
Somatic Pattern Recognition
The body process is not linear, it is circular; always, it is circular.
One thing goes awry, and its effects go on and on and on and on.
A body is a web, connecting everything with everything else.

DFA Training Program: Requirements for Admission
Program Specifications | Requirements for Admission | Application Process

Those wishing to enter the DFA Training Program must demonstrate an active interest in, and knowledge of, the biological and behavioral sciences. Candidates must also demonstrate sensitivity in relating to others and have a creative interest in facilitating the process of change within themselves as well as others. Listed below are the requirements for entering the training:
  1. DFA sessions: Each candidate must have been in process of weekly sessions with a certified DFA practitioner for at least a year.

  2. Introductory workshop: Candidates must participate in a workshop led by a DFA instructor certified for DFA introductory workshops.

  3. Psychological aptitude: The practice of DFA work evokes changes in the emotional, mental, spiritual and physical aspects of the clients' experience. DFA practitioners must demonstrate the knowledge and insight to effectively facilitate these changes. Candidates for the DFA Training Program must have appropriate academic and experiential grounding in psychology and human behaviour.

  4. Educational Background and/or work experience DFA work requires a cultural background which is acquired through some kind of classical education in sciences or humanities and/or professional experience. The DFA training program is not a substitute for this education, but rather builds on it. Candidates must be willing to commit to be in an ongoing learning process and, if necessary, even go back to school to deepen their general understanding of culture. Part of the learning takes place in an ongoing process of weekly DFA sessions even after certification.

  5. Knowledge of Human Anatomy: The study of human anatomy must specifically include bones, and their articulation, physiology and kinesiology. Other recommended areas of study include massage, bodywork techniques, and life drawing.

  6. Licensing: According to each country's legislation. In the USA for example, a massage license is required.

If requirements have been met, candidates are invited to present the materials listed in the Application Process.
